Friendship Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church serving the Elkin, NC area. We offer a mixed-style worship service that includes traditional and contemporary music. Our preaching is strictly biblical and aimed at bringing each person into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pastor Matty Ponce-de-Leon has been Friendship Baptist Church’s pastor since 2023. Matty has served local churches as pastor since 2012. He is a committed, cooperating Southern Baptist who has served leadership committees on both the associational and state level in North Carolina. Matty began his Christian journey as a member of Friendship Baptist Church in 2006 and is grateful to be back home ministering with the congregation that loved he and his family to life. Matty serves together with his wife of 21 years, Alexis, and is the proud father of Aliece, Hunter (Aliece’s husband), Isaac, and Peyton.
Matty holds a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries, a Master of the Arts in Christian Ministries, a Master of the Arts in Pastoral Counseling: Addictions and Recovery, and a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation from Liberty University.
Matty also serves as the Chief Consultant of Blessed Hope Ministries. He is the author of Broken: Returning in Desperation to the Cross and has been nationally recognized for contributions concerning addiction ministry. Matty is passionate about supporting, serving, and equipping ministry leaders both regionally and internationally, and is involved in ongoing pastor training events and conferences.

Friendship Baptist Church, as a whole, affirms the Baptist Faith and Message. The basic core tenets of the church's belief are 1) the Bible is God's inspired Word, 2) there is one triune God, 3) man is sinful and cannot attain righteous by himself, 4) Jesus Christ is the sinless Son of God who died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins, 5) man receives forgiveness of sins by repenting of sin and putting his faith in Christ, 6) those who have trusted Christ as their Savior should pursue believer's baptism as a public confession of their faith.
